Yes, you can install WhatsApp on Apple iPad/iPod Touch without jailbreaking.

WhatsApp Messenger is one of the most famous cross-platform instant messengers to keep up with family and friends. But WhatsApp cannot be installed on iPod Touch/ iPad easily.

You can use various 3rd party app installers available in Cydia to install WhatsApp if your device is jailbroken.

And not to worry, there is also a way for non-jailbroken device users to get WhatsApp, and it is simple. For this, you need access to a PC/Mac and temporarily to an iPhone with a new SIM that hasn’t been ever registered with WhatsApp.

1. Get the WhatsApp .ipa file

To locate and get the WhatsApp .ipa file is the first step. Simply open up iTunes and follow these:

1. Click “iTunes Store” button in the top-right corner.

2. Enter “WhatsApp” in the search bar and hit Enter.

3. In the iPhone Apps section, download WhatsApp Messenger. Click “Free” and enter Apple ID and password when prompted.

4. Open up the Apps section in your iTunes library once the app downloads.

5. Locate WhatsApp app, right-click it and select “Show In Finder” for Macs and “Show In Explorer” for Windows.

Alternatively, on your Mac and Windows computers, you can navigate to the following locations.

Macintosh machine: ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/

Windows machine: C:\Users\Username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications\

You’ll find the WhatsApp app named “WhatsApp.ipa” here. For easy access later, copy it to your desktop.

2. Download iFunBox or any other iOS file browser

You’ll now need a 3rd party iOS file browser on your Mac/PC to access your iPad/ iPod Touch. Although many such file browsers exist, we’ll be using iFunBox. It does what it is supposed to and is free.

Fire up iFunBox after you connect your iPad/ iPod Touch to Mac/PC. Click “Install app”, navigate to the desktop and select “WhatsApp.ipa” file.

Click on it and the app will install. Once done, unplug your iPad/iPod Touch from the machine. WhatsApp icon should appear on your home screen now. Notice:- When the icon on the iPad/iPod Touch device is clicked, it does’nt function since more steps need to be carried out.

3. Install WhatsApp on your iPhone

Now you have to have access to an iPhone. On your iPhone, install WhatsApp from App Store usually.

Note: Make sure the number you register with has never been used with WhatsApp earlier. For this, you can just insert a new SIM card in your iPhone. Register with the new phone number and see to it that WhatsApp sends you a confirmation code. Without this WhatsApp will not function on your device. Reinstall WhatsApp before adding the new number if you already have WhatsApp on your iPhone.

Once downloaded, open the app and then register a phone number-be sure this is the one you wish to use with WhatsApp on your iPod Touch/ iPad. Confirm this using a code sent to the number.

Connect your iPhone to your Mac and open up iFunBox once set up. In the iPhone section, click “User Applications”.
Here, click WhatsApp logo, which will open a window having a few different files.

You’ll need “Library” and “Documents” folders, as these contain registration data for WhatsApp. Copy these to desktop.

4. Copy the registration data to your iPod Touch/iPad

Connect your iPad/ iPod Touch to your Mac/PC after unplugging your iPhone. Click on “User Applications” in your iPad/ iPod Touch’s section and click on WhatsApp icon.

Here, replace the Library and Documents folders with the ones copied from iPhone before, thus copying registration data over to the iPad/ iPod Touch. Do this by selecting “Copy from Mac” from menu bar and selecting the folders from your desktop.

That is it and that is it friend(s), you should now have WhatsApp running on your iPod Touch/ iPad. If  “The device is not supported” is reported repeatedly by the app, you should try restarting the device.
